44 weken, ruim 3 seizoenen, na een alles verwoestende natuurbrand bezocht De Langen het gebied rondom Vall d’Ebo (Spanje). Een uiterst vruchtbaar gebied; kersen, amandelen, sinaasappels, citroenen, mandarijnen, appels, peren... Er waren verhalen van vrees, verwoesting en evacuatie als ook de verhalen van verloren fruitbomen ‘hoe geweldig sappig en lekker en groot de vruchten waren … van die ene boom’. Waarneembaar was de verkleurde aarde en zwartgeblakerde bomen evenals de zich opnieuw ontpoppende natuur. Een gebied, 11.800 hectare, van destructie maar ook van nieuwe groei, vooruitzicht en verdergaan. De sporen, de as, de verwonding van het gebied en de verhalen van Vall d’Ebo vormen de basis voor deze nieuwe serie werken, souvenirs; een hommage.

44 weeks, more than 3 seasons, after a most devastating wildfire De Langen visited the Vall d’Ebo area (Spain). A highly fertile area; cherries, almonds, oranges, citrus, apples, pears… She heard stories of fear, ruination and evacuation, but also stories of the lost fruit trees. ‘How wonderful, big and juicy the fruit was … of that one tree’. Visible was the discoloured earth and the blackened trees as well as the new growing vegetation. A zone, 11.800 hectares of destruction but also of new growth, prospects and continuation. The traces, the ashes, the wounded landscape and the testimonies from Vall d’Ebo are the basis for these new works, souvenirs; an homage.
